Smooth muscle antibody

Sample type:

Serum (Gold top).

Uses:

To help diagnose autoimmune hepatitis and distinguish it from other causes of liver injury.

Precaution:

  • Avoid some types of medications,

  • Avoid eating anything for a period of time before the test.

  • Be sure to continue drinking water prior to the test

Interfering factors:

Fatty liver disease

also relatively common are positive serological tests for antinuclear antibody (ANA), anti-smooth muscle antibody (ASMA) and even ant mitochondrial antibody (AMA).

Pre analytical errors:

  1. Errors in patient preparation,

  2. Specimen transportation,

  3. Specimen collection.

Corrective action:

Take a blood sample from a vein in your arm, using a small needle. After the needle is inserted, a small amount of blood will be collected into a yellow test tube.

Post analytical errors:

1- Failure to report test results,

2-delay in reporting,

Reference rang:

(Smooth Muscle) Ab, 19 Units or less Negative 20-30 Units Weak Positive

  • Suggest repeat testing in two to three weeks with fresh specimen.
