β2-Microglobulin
(β2M)
Sample type:
Serum.
Test use:
Evaluate the severity and prognosis of multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma; detect kidney damage and distinguish between glomerular and tubular kidney disorders.
Precautions:

Interfering factors:
Drugs such as lithium, cyclosporine, cisplatin, carboplatin, and aminoglycoside antibiotics can increase β2-microglobulin concentrations.
Pre analytical errors:
1) Gross hemolysis.
2) Unlabelled sample.
3) Improper sample preparation.
Post analytical errors:
1) Delayed report.
2) You may be instructed not to eat (fast) six hours before the test.
Corrective actions:
Rejecting a hemolysed sample and take new sample.
