Specimen Whole blood( Lavender-top (EDTA) tube).

Use

Investigate for hemolytic anemia, hemoglobinopathies, and thalassemia. Interfering factors:

Blood transfusion prior to hemoglobin analysis may cause inconsistent interpretation.

Precautions:

Fasting or fluid restriction is not necessary. Pre analytical errors:

Clotted specimen.

Post errors:

Delay report

Corrective action:

Reject any clotted sample and take new sample
