Uses:
C-peptide is a widely used measure of pancreatic beta cell function.
Help tell the difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
Find the cause of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Check to see whether a tumour of the pancreas (insulinoma) was completely removed.
Precautions :
Fasting for 8 to 10 hours before blood testing is usually required.
Interfering factors:
kidney problem or an insulinoma, a tumor of the insulin-making cells in the pancreas can increase the result of c- peptide.
Preanalytical errors:
Not fasting before the test
Corrective action:
Fast before the test.
Postanalytical errors:
Give the test result to the wrong patient.
Corrective action:
Pay attention while reporting the result and give it to the right patient.
Reference range:
A normal C-peptide range is 0.5 to 2.0 nanograms per milliliter.
