Anti-strepto-lysin O titer
(ASO)
Sample type:
Serum.
Test use:
Document exposure to streptococcal streptolysin O. A marked rise in titer or a persistently elevated titer indicates that a Streptococcus infection or pos tstreptococcal sequelae are present.
Precautions:
You may be instructed not to eat (fast) six hours before the test Interfering factors:
1) An increased titer can occur in healthy carriers.
2) Antibiotic therapy suppress streptococcus anibody.
3) Increased B-lipoprotiens levels inhibit streptolysin O and produce falsely high ASOT titer.
Pre analytical errors:
1) Drawing the sample in EDTA.
2) Transportation.
Post analytical errors:
1) Delayed report.
2) You may be instructed not to eat (fast) six hours before the test
Corrective actions:
Rejecting any sample with anticoagulant.
